A leading SaaS platform is hiring a Backend Engineering Manager to guide the next phase of growth for a high-impact product used by thousands of businesses. This is a hybrid role combining technical contribution and backend team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Write code, pair program, and contribute to architectural decisions
Lead modernization of a Django monolith into an API-first architecture
Mentor and manage a team of 4–7 backend engineers
Guide hiring, coaching, and development processes
Establish scalable engineering practices without unnecessary bureaucracy
Debug production issues and lead code reviews
Partner cross-functionally with product and business stakeholders
Participate in planning infrastructure improvements (Python, Django, MySQL, Kubernetes)
Communicate technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders
Promote psychological safety, innovation, and risk-taking
Required Skills
7+ years of software engineering experience, with strong SaaS background
3+ years managing engineering teams
Advanced Python and Django expertise
Strong SQL skills, including performance tuning and optimization
Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
Familiarity with Celery, asynchronous programming, and background task processing
Proven ability to scale systems with high transaction volume
Strong communicator, especially in cross-functional contexts
Experience defining engineering practices and developing team culture
Comfortable in B2B SaaS and customer-facing environments
Understanding of Agile development and team facilitation
Bonus Skills
Experience at early-stage startups
Background in multi-product SMB environments
Knowledge of payment systems and PCI compliance
Familiarity with Team Topologies and modern org structures
Experience with incident response, postmortems, and reliability engineering
Industry experience in fitness, wellness, or service-based software
