Ascension is seeking an AVP of Capital Management to lead system-wide planning, governance, and execution of strategic investments that drive growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Lead the organization’s capital allocation process and ensure ongoing coordination of the process.

  • Manage the Capital Center of Expertise (COE) in the formation of business cases and pro forma in support of significant capital investments.
  • Assimilate and analyze information from a variety of sources and recommend a course of action.
  • Direct large cross-functional teams and communications to facilitate projects and ensure timely delivery to leadership.
  • Staff the Strategic Investment Council of the Ascension Leadership Team (ALT).
  • Provide strong leadership, develop and monitor individual and team performance goals, as well as manage change.
  • Ensure proper tools and resources are in place to support team efforts.


Requirements

Education:

  • Associate’s degree/Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 4 of those years being in leadership/management.


Additional Preferences

Strategic Capital Planning & Governance

  • Help lead the system-wide capital planning process, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, financial capacity, and clinical/operational priorities.
  • Manage and facilitate a transparent capital governance structure for reviewing, prioritizing, and approving capital requests.
  • Partner with executive leadership, finance, and operational teams to ensure capital investments align with strategic initiatives (e.g., growth, safety, quality, technology modernization).

Capital Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Coordinate annual and multi-year capital budgeting processes.
  • Forecast and monitor capital spending to ensure adherence to budget and financial constraints.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on the timing, financing, and phasing of major projects.

Capital Project Oversight & Execution

  • Track capital project performance and report variances, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership.
  • Establish consistent project evaluation criteria (ROI, payback, qualitative benefits, risk assessment).

Financial & Performance Reporting

  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to monitor capital allocation, commitments, and utilization.
  • Provide executive-level reporting and presentations to the CFO, COO and Leadership teams

Leadership & Team Development

  • Foster strong partnerships across finance, operations, clinical leadership, and external partners.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in capital processes.
