Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research organization to engage professionals with advanced expertise in mathematics. This

invites pure mathematics experts to help train and refine AI systems capable of reasoning through complex theoretical concepts. As an
AI Tutor – Pure Math Specialist
, you will contribute high-quality annotations, inputs, and solutions to enhance model understanding in abstract areas of mathematics such as algebra, analysis, topology, and graph theory.

Collaborate closely with technical teams to improve annotation tools, design mathematical tasks, and select challenging problems that push AI systems toward deeper logical and conceptual reasoning.

Contribute data in text, voice, or video formats, providing both analytical precision and educational clarity to guide AI learning.
Qualifications

Master’s or PhD in Mathematics specializing in pure math, or a medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) or similar high-level math competition

Strong ability to read and write both formal and informal English

Skilled in navigating academic databases, research resources, and mathematical literature

Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills

Ability to work independently and make sound judgments with limited context

Passion for technological innovation and the advancement of AI research
Requirements

PhD in Mathematics with a focus on pure mathematics

Publications in peer-reviewed mathematical journals

Experience teaching mathematics or mentoring students at the college level

Prior work in AI training, tutoring, or technical writing
Work Environment

Based in Palo Alto, CA (in-office, 5 days per week) or fully remote with strong self-management skills

U.S.-based applicants must reside outside of Wyoming and Illinois

Typical hours: 9:00am–5:30pm PST during training, then aligned with your local timezone

Remote workers must use a personal computer that meets one of the following requirements: a Chromebook, a Mac running macOS 11 or newer, or a Windows PC running Windows 10 or newer

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive pay ranging from $90,000 to $200,000 annually for U.S.-based professionals, depending on experience and location
